Thursday, May 28, 2009 Hello! It has been 2 weeks since I arrived in this beautiful little peaceful island! Time really flies while the cycle repeats itself from day to day. Wake up at 7, breakfast, go to work at 8, clean one room after another, lunch for half an hour, go back to work again until dinner time, work after dinner if it's a busy day, go back to room, bathe, play some games, watch drama or Youtube, sleep. We sleep very very early here compared to when we are in Sg. Usually not later than 12am. We eat every meal very early. Lunch starts at 11.30am, dinner starts at 4.30pm! That's why we need to sleep early or else we will be starving at night. Boy I think I have gained weight! We tend to eat more than we need to due to the 'starvation' we suffer after work. However sometimes the food provided to us is not up to our expectation. Erm... And the food here are all high calorie food and you can hardly find thin people here! Obesity is very common in US as we all know. LOL that's why I really need to control myself. Normally I will have 2 pieces of toasted bread for breakfast, salad and some main dishes procided for lunch, anything for dinner. Sometimes we will go downtown which is the main street of this little island. All the shops and hotels are there. Mackinac Island is famous for a kind of soft sweet made from sugar, butter and milk known as fudge. I don't really know how it tastes but I guess I will get to taste it some day. It really doesn't seem to attract me when we enter those fudge shops. We usually prefer the ice cream at one of the fudge shops. 0ne big scoop for only 1.50 dollars as we are offered employees' discount! Yummy =) We went cycling around the island last week. Actually half of the island due to time constraint. But we still have plenty of time to explore this little island. It's quite pricey to rent a bike here but we managed to borrow bikes from some random people working in our resort. Thanks to my frens for being thick-skinned lol. I guess the people here are quite friendly and they have trust in each other. I like the peace on the island too =) This is the resort where I am working. Looks like a school? Yes it was a college. This island is really beautiful especially the trees and the flowers! And something interesting about this island: no cars, just horses and bikes! And horse dung! Labels: Mackinac Island, 在美国的夏天 Wednesday, May 13, 2009 I am here! Finally, after a super duper long and tiring journey, I am here! [Singapore-Taipei-LA-Detroit-Pellston-Mackinac Island] ![]() ![]() ![]() Stay tuned for more updates! (Photos are up on Facebook already ^^) Labels: 菇游记 Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Fraud Syndicate: the stupid victim tmd i cant believe this time i am the victim of 'gua gua le'!! I should have realized this at the beginning! Why was I so stupid! damn I am revealing the whole process of how I was cheated by those cunning people so that there will be no more victims and these ppl cant survive by cheating our money! I was walking from sg wang plaza to Times Square with my fren this afternoon when a teenager stopped me and passed me a 'voucher' and I was so 'lucky' that I won the 'big prize'! Then those people congratulated me with super exaggerated expression and asked me to go to the main office to claim my prize. The prizes include some cars, electrical appliances and trips to Bali, Turkey etc. We took a taxi to the office in Kuchai Lama, 2nd floor of the shop house just right to 7-Eleven. Beware! This might be just one of their lairs. The boy led me to the manager and he explained the terms and conditions to me and showed me some photos of people winning 'big prizes' including some celebrities and public figures. Actually I felt rather suspicious from the very beginning but i think as long as they dun ask us to pay for anything then it should be ok. Then came the money part. The manager explained to us that whatever prizes I won I would need to pay government taxes of RM1200 except for those trips which are exchangable with cash. They asked me to withdraw the money from the Hong Leong Bank next to their company and they would record the serial number of the notes. Thinking back I have no idea why they need to do so. I should have sensed something wrong! They got me signed some documents to prove my willingness to enter the deal. I found a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes on the so called 'contract'. and I should have be more suspicious towards the manager coz he claimed that he graduated from NTU but his English sucks! totally 'cannot make it'! And so, while one of the people was recording the serial numbers, my 'big prize voucher' was scanned and i got the most useless and unpractical thing on the list of prizes, the jade mattress! The person recording the serial numbers disappeared while he was still recording halfway with my money! I was so despair about winning the totally useless thing. Looking back now, they seemed to have expected me to win the stupid jade mattress. This was a snare! They took a picture of me and the boy with the 'big prize' and claimed that they will publish it on local newspapers as a company promotion. WTF! Sometimes I really cant stand my 'naivety'! I always kena cheated by the sweet-talk of those promoters and salesman and waste unnecessary money. I wont be so stupid anymore after this painful incident. I feel so sorry for my money now. they should have been spent somewhere else but not in the hands of this fraud syndicate! So everyone pls beware!! Dun trust anyone trying to feed you with free lunch!! There is no free lunch in this world!! Saturday, April 4, 2009 A packet of tissue? wtf... I seriously dislike the 'culture' of using a packet of tissue to reserve seats in hawker centers. This is not uncommon for a society made up of 5 million (kiasu) ppl crowded on this small little unseen dot on the map. What is so significant about a packet of tissue paper? Some ppl may have just unintentionally left it there after their meals. SO WHAT! I wont give it a damn and will never acknowledge that the seats are being reserved by stupid ppl out of sight. This is a total waste of resources. To show my boycott against tissue-choping system, next time I will just use the pathetic packets of tissue paper and assume they are mine. "hey dude the seats are reserved." "huh!? I didnt see any signs of reserving." "Where is my tissue paper!" "What tissue paper are you talking about?"
